A shopper replacing an older compact with a new compact may be surprised to find the replacement barely fits in their garage. Someone expecting fuel-efficient numbers from a 'small' SUV may be working from an outdated mental model of what small means in that class today.
The solution is straightforward: shop by measurements, not marketing. Compare exterior length, width, and turning radius directly. Cross-check cargo volume in cubic feet. What the industry means by segments versus what buyers picture is a gap worth closing before you sign anything.
